Right on, Beckles. Throughout Catch-22, one of the finest (and funniest) pieces of literature from the last century, the protagonist Yossarian is deeply bothered by something he had discovered during an ill-fated mission over Italy, but one which he can only fully express (and understand) by the end of the book:

"Man was matter, that was Snowden's secret. Drop him out the window and he'll fall. Set fire to him and he'll burn. Bury him and he'll rot like other kinds of garbage. The spirit gone, man is garbage. That was Snowden's secret."

Mit: Hope you are feeling better soon. Thanks for the packages---I'll let you know when they show up. I'm looking forward to seeing what you sent, including Christian's mystery box.

Erik,

Finally,
3 packages winging their way to you. I got them mailed finally, and I know what is in my 2, but the one from Christian remmains a mystery, I sort of embelished on the declaration paper. Good luck there. Hope you enjoy the goodies, we have more boxes to send, but I could only physically manage 3 today. I'm getting better, but am as weak as a kitten. I can't wait to get my full strength back. any suggestions to speed up this process? I think my blood count is low and my pressure is low. I feel like crud. But better than last week. the kids have off this week and are doing various things with m&d. they have really helped me out. I greatly appreciate it. they seem like the 43 year old and I feel like the 73 year old. they just never seem to get any older. we are lucky to have such healthy parents. they are a blessing for sure.

Love, Mit

dear Uncle Erik,
I hope you are safe and felling well. I really miss you. We pray
for you every day. I would love to have a laptop. If you have an
extra one may I please have it. I can't wait for you to come home. I'm glad you are helping the other soldiers get well. It is good that you are a doctor. I love you and we are sending some boxes to you and your gang tomorrow. love, Juliet.
